You don’t combat the bad side of a fandom by giving it more of the bad side of the fandom. You combat the bad side of a fandom with the good side of the fandom. Our fandom has a bad name at cons, but if mature fans actually went out and went to cons as Homestucks and made an impact by being helpful, mature, kind, considerate and understanding then wouldn’t the younger fans learn from our example? At the moment we’re not giving them an example of anything besides that quitting is the best option, which tells them they can do what they want because one of their own will not tell them no. Younger fans will not learn if there is no one to show them.
Mature fans shouldn’t be leaving the Homestuck fandom. Mature fans should be putting themselves out there and making a good impact in the cosplay community. You cannot just tell someone how to act and expect them to do it. To change something you have to be an example.
The world is terrifying right now. There’s a full blown civil war looming in Libya, Russians invading the sovereign nation of Ukraine, an extremist army in Iraq and Syria trying to control the region, Israel and Gaza are still at war, Africa is currently dealing with the worst Ebola outbreak in history, black people are being killed for their skin color, and women are still being demeaned and oppressed. I wonder what’s going to happen next. There’s just too much chaos.
